Performance Lab
My first major involvement with Performance Lab was re-platforming the brand from Magento to Shopify Plus back in 2018. I've been involved with the e-commerce sites ever since.
I wasn't just managing the 6 Shopify Plus instances for this company, I was in charge of Operations for around 3 years, and a director of the company.
My main responsibilities in relation to Performance Lab are now centered on inventory management, logistics and ordering systems. There's a separate post here which gives more information on that.
There have been numerous incarnations of the site frontend. The latest one is credit to the very talented Ash Hancock, you can see my older versions over the years below in the product screenshots from 2019, 2022 and 202;

In comparison to building a Magento theme, rebuilding it on Shopify was a real breeze and I realised at this point I would never work on Magento again. The migration of orders and customers was much harder, but that was mainly down to the technical inefficiencies of the Magento 1 APIs.
The technical challenges around this brand are a product of the products themselves and the scale of the operation.
1. 30 products, all highly specialised, with complex and hard to source ingredients
2. These ingredients often make production very tricky.
3. 5 warehouses across the US, UK, EU and Australia. Two different 3Pls.
4. Products can have different versions in different geos, and with numerous batch runs in circulation at any time.
I've worked on the Performance Lab websites for 7 years and it has never been boring. The task I have just deployed was an inventory sync app which takes webhooks from all stores and syncs up promotional inventory in realtime on Shopify to prevent over selling (when promo emails go out stock sells FAST). Great brand, great team and proud to have been a part of it for so long.
